Harper B for ??? Day

Recently Heidi Sr. sent me an email and referenced Harper B for Starving. It took me a few minutes but then I wrote back and noted that "starving" does not start with a "B". Heidi Sr. wrote back (don't we love email?!) to educate me that the "B" in bstarving is silent. At this, I observed back to Heidi Sr. that it is apparently both silent and invisible -- but knowing this new trick certainly opens up new possibilities for B words!

A Season for All Things & You Know What Day!

I have found that the best way not to burn out on "stuff" is to respect the natural ebb and flow of motivation. Therefore, I see nothing at all wrong with deciding -- in spite of an upcoming tracking test in Montana -- that I am done with field tracking for the year.

Themself: A Playdate & Lainey!

Yesterday the puppy known as Himself came over for a playdate with his BFF, the puppy known as Herself; together they form a unit known as Themself -- and Themself had a blast!

Memorial Day, Change, Goal Attained & Holden

Through my graduate students who serve internships with the Veterans Administration, as well as those students who are veterans, I have gained increased awareness and sensitivity for issues faced by veterans in our country. Further, my own professional expertise in issues related to loss/grief means that I have some perspective on the traumatic grief that veterans bring home. What part of volunteering to serve does not involve loss and change?

Zeke! NEWS FLASH!!!!!

Barb sent some lovely photos from Zeke's life at 10,000 feet in Leadville, Colorado!

Driving Down Risk & Mesa & Aspen Green

There is nothing in life that does not involve some assumption of risk -- even getting out of bed is a risky endeavor, especially if you have dogs underfoot.

Auggie Update

All of the plumpies are looking so mature all of a sudden -- wait until you see the incredible cuteness that is Auggie!

A Special Harper B for Birthday Day

"It always seemed strange to me that the things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self interest are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first, they love the produce of the second.” (John Steinbeck)

Contexts, Choices, One Baby, One Plumpie!

There are times that I envy those whose choices are simple, and reflect only what they want. How excellent to be free of that little voice that constantly asks, "how will this choice impact others?" and "what does this choice mean?" This can be most annoying, I must say, and is no doubt another consequence of a Catholic school education!

The Life and Times of Halo deVil & Lainey & Ruben

At one point we had four teenage boys at home -- the only thing worse would have been four teenage girls! Luckily, the boys were pretty good -- for teenagers -- but it was a busy, hectic time in the life of our family.
