Zoey and Claire

Seeing age in my dog is bittersweet.

I know well how lucky I am to have an older Bernese Mountain Dog. But I do not want my time with her to ever end, and age is nature's way of reminding us that this gift won't last forever.

Aging also reminds us to not wait until "later" but just to do the things we love NOW. What would you do today if you really understood that life on earth is temporary for all of us?

This is Zoey with Claire -- Zoey is the smaller one (!)...

Claire has grown into her ears somewhat but will always have ears that are just a wee bit long -- one of her legacies from Zoey.

I love my related girls -- they are like gentle echoes. Each so unique and wonderful in their own way - and yet they whisper of the ones who came before them. Those echoes of love amplify what is so wonderful about *this* particular dog, Claire...

I think this "What would you do today if you really understood that life on earth is temporary for all of us?" is the greatest gift that Life with Berners has given me.
While it's hard not to get caught up in all the other stuff, I feel that my puppers always bring me back to what matters most.
