Day 48

This morning the plumpies decided that the leash that has been in their play area for over a week was the newest hot toy, and a great game of tug ensued -- this is Heidi with Barcelona trying to jump in...

Barcelona grabbed her piece and then Z was trying to figure all this out...

Soon everyone was trying to tug!

The blue ball continues to be a favorite with plumpies -- this is London...

Austin had a very busy morning -- first he dragged around the milk jug, and then checked out the bookcase before posing for this cute picture...

And speaking of posing and cute, here is Barcelona...

Bob came out of protective custody/therapy for the morning play session and it went well -- all his wool protected him this morning...

Carlos/Ute stopped in for a fast visit -- Pippi was there to welcome him...

But he left too quickly to bite so Pippi had an idea for a cat trap...

It was not a well-formulated idea but she isn't even seven weeks old so we have to give her a break...

This morning what struck me is how plumpies were chewing on "details" -- this is London chewing on a latch and Squeaker was chewing on the tiny end bolt of an article...

Puppies chew -- that is their job. They chew everything and everyone, and it has nothing to do with being mean. Trying to stop a puppy from chewing is just a recipe for frustration all around -- could you really stop a human infant from putting everything in her mouth?! No -- that is just how babies are hard-wired.

Puppy owners have three jobs related to chewing -- first, give the puppy opportunities to chew on appropriate things. Second, never, ever punish a puppy for doing her job (i.e., chewing) or anything else for that matter -- punishment is always always always always inappropriate and mean and ignorant (do you think I have strong feelings about that?!). Prevention and redirection are the keys to raising a good puppy!!!  Third, puppy owners need to be patient because all this chewing is a phase and an important one -- and it will be gone much too soon, along with all the sweetness of puppyhood...

We have a lot of that sweetness going on here -- and a lot of just general chaos....

Every puppy now has very dark eyes -- I love it!! This is Pippi...

Best picture of the day -- Squeaker with a completely random shot of this leash showing it says, "2011 Tri-athlete". This leash was won by Halo at the Specialty. The Tri-athlete award is a special program that Ruth N. started -- it rewards dogs who are skilled in multiple performance events -- and that is right up our Kaibab alley. Clearly the next generation of Kaibab Specialty Tri-athletes have arrived, as Squeaker so aptly tells us...

These plumpies have some big shoes to fill, and I am definitely feeling that they are up to task. They have rock star families on all sides -- I am very, very excited and pleased about this H Litter.

And I hope you are excited about your day -- and will be pleased with how it turns out :)

7:30 p.m.

We have a bunch of sleepyheads here tonight -- too much fun and good food, I guess! So just a few pictures and then we will call it a night...

I like to give the plumpies new things to explore -- and plumpies explore with their mouth -- so here they are exploring an ice cream scooper...

Pippi providing the perfect photo for Jennifer...

Sydney enjoyed grooming Pippi and Austin tonight -- and watching them wag their tails while she did?! Priceless!

And topping off the tanks before bedtime...

See you tomorrow!

It just continues to amaze me how SMART and MATURE this group of plumpies are!!!!! I can't believe all of the things they are learning to do - I had better warn our old cat:)
Mrs.Maize continues to make me teary - she is and always has been sooo tolerant!
The tug of war is adorable and all of these plumpies have the prettiest faces ever - can't wait to hear the evaluations...
I think it is so wonderful that M/A has the knowlege/wisdom/expertise to know each and every one of these plumpies so well - a huge THANK YOU!!!!

I always tell new puppy owners that chewing is how puppies learn about their environment-the obvious follow-up to smelling something is to taste it! It's the owners job to ensure safe chewing! Squeaker...2013 Tri-athlete, huh?!
