A Farewell

Almost nine years ago, we had two litters close together. That meant we had lots of adorable puppies to share but now it means we have lots of beloved berners older than the breed's average age of death, and yes -- we are losing them. This should not be a surprise, right? But it still feels shocking to me and I suspect I am not the only one.

Terri Z lost Zed (F Litter) recently...

He was diagnosed with an unusual liver cancer and was doing relatively well but then got pancreatitis, and things went downhill quickly. He lived a full life, including having what Terri called "Zedventures" right up to the end of his time with us. Here is Zed at the Specialty in April with Stacy Slade...

A beautiful, wonderful soul gone from the earth too soon, leaving a berner-sized hole in Terri's heart.

Such a sweet, sweet soul. I'm so thankful to have 2 pieces of Zed to share my heart with.

I'm sorry Terri. When we decided to name our puppy Ze.D, Mary-Ann reminded us that his great uncle was also named Zed... <3

I have always said that none of my animals have ever ever lived long enough to satisfy my heart. I miss them all, and count them as blessings still through my tears. I just fervently hope that it isn't good-bye, just until then, we our energies can once again be merged, and my soul complete in their company.

Terri, I'm was so sorry to hear about Zed. I remember seeing him in the ring many times and seeing you always sitting right at ringside to see your boy and wait for him. He was so loved and it's so sad that he gone. So glad we got to share a little piece of him one of his babies.

Terri and Mary-Ann, I am so terribly sorry that Zed had to leave. I remember well when he was born and it doesn't seem possible that it was almost 9 years ago. Too fast but he sure lived a great life.

Terri, he was a very handsome boy & I'm sorry for his loss. I am currently struggling with Jemie's (E Litter) health as he was diagnosed with Lymphoma in January.. he will be 10 on July 22...my longest lived Berner! Each day is a treasure & we try to make the most of it! Hugs from St. Louis!

Sharon, I'm thinking of you both as we come up on July 22nd. I, too, find myself very consciously treasuring every day. Hugs to you both. Love, Erin and Levi

I remember meeting Teri at a show in Pleasanton (almost 10 years ago!) when Levi was just a puppy. We got to meet her beautiful Zaltana. The photos I've seen of Zed remind me very much of Zaltana. Both such beautiful boys.
Sending my heartfelt condolences.
