The Kaibab Girls

Taking photos of the current Kaibab Girls always reminds me of the ones who are missing. Like any family, our dog family is not a constant but rather is always changing as lives are lived and loved ones leave. One important thing that Life with Dogs teaches is about how live joyfully under the sometimes oppressive shadows of loss and grief.

But what is the alternative? To not love? To let the suffocating grief make life devoid of joy? Life with Dogs is about living and loving in the moment, always mindful of the crowded conditions in your heart; those we love are never really gone from us.

In one week Zoey will be nine.

I just asked Dear Husband, "How do you think Zoey would like to spend her birthday?"

He answered: "With you."

Harper B for Back in (limited) Action.

This is what a Harper B for Ball Coma looks like...

Such a sweet girl heart

Sparkle likes the broad jump way more than me, and is making it is easy to train.

Not surprising -- Sparkle is such a cooperator.

Claire at eight month is taller than her mom, Sparkle.

She is a natural retriever and smart smart smart.

I guess that is what happens when your name is Kaibab's Justifiably Bright heart

Do you see the paint on the tip of Claire's ear? That is evidence that at long last we painted our kitchen. The eight-year delay reflected my inability to decide on a color. In the end, I went with .... white. Bold and daring, I know.

Have a terrific Saturday. I am heading out to help students move into the dorms on campus -- what is your random act of kindness for today?

Nothing wrong with a white kitchen - you get to bring in all other colors with various accents, dishes, and such. Have fun with it!

Love all the pictures and wishing the Kaibab dogs and all their friends across the land & seas a Happy National Dog Day!

And, even though it's a bit early I just want to wish Zoey a super-duper Happy 9th Birthday!!!

Thanks for the beautiful and fun pics of your girls. They have turned out to be such great dogs but I suspect you had a lot to do with it. And white is a well chosen color. Think of all the black and rust accessories you can put with it :)

I think Zoey would like her birthday to be just like all the other days of her life, because they're already pretty darn perfect!

The greatest teachers of all, dogs, well, animals, really, teach us to be present, because it's all we ever truly have. What a pleasure it will be to celebrate Zoey in a week! 9 is a wonderful number. <3 It gives me pleasure to rest my mind on her, and her special day.

The girls are all pictures of joy, such ambassadors for this amazing breed, and a love for dogs as a whole. They make my day.
