Various Things and a Calendar Prompt

Zoey can see again and her platelets are normal; her veterinarian recommends ending chemotherapy because we caught the disease so early, she appears firmly in remission, and we want to avoid future chemo side effects. Yippee! So that is our happy news :)

The Helena shows and draft tests over the weekend reminded me of a couple important things. First, sometimes it just has to be good enough. I struggle with that, to be honest -- I like to do things well. But the fires and smoke and a very consuming job meant that I had very little opportunity to train/practice, and it showed in obedience especially. Sparkle easily qualified in obedience -- but she did not score well due primarily to jumping on me (n=2) and no sits (n=3-4).

Oh well -- she had such a delightfully happy attitude and made people smile with her bounces, and that is what matters most. And all of us can use that "good enough" reminder now and again.

The second good reminder was about how important and enduring a solid foundation can be when training and showing a dog. Sparkle had not been trained or shown as a solo draft team since she earned her DD in May 2016. I did not have time to even hitch her up before the Helena draft test -- and yet she knew her job and did it well...

Kathy France took that photo -- yes, it snowed! But not for long and the second day was picture perfect. Sparkle qualified both days, in spite of the inability to practice. What a good dog!!

I cannot recommend the Helena shows highly enough. What is not to like about four days of indoor conformation/obedience/rally plus two days of draft -- IN MONTANA! Mark your calendar now :)

I still remember learning about good enough parenting in one of my psych classes, and after being flustered for a bit by the notion, realizing it was truly the only sane concept for something as slippery as raising a child well. Who can define that, beyond experience?

I am glad your show went well, and despite jumping and missed sits, I love seeing a happy girl, no tucked tail or big eyes, in concert with her beloved, working together. Relationship -- THAT is what it's all about. <3

Such good news about Zoey's remission. And what a relief that her vision has been restored. May it last for years!
