Miss Adventures

What a week.

On Monday, as I was making my way to pick up Mocha the Pug and get home from Boise, the interstate was shut down necessitating a detour that went over a scary snow-covered mountain pass that -- judging by the number of trucks and cars in snowbanks -- should have been closed as well.

WHEW. I lived.

As I was driving home, I was also coaching a rather frantic Dear Husband -- Zoey wouldn't eat. Don't they teach that whole  "stay calm" in Cop School?!

On Tuesday the source of Zoey's lack of appetite was surgically handled -- she had an abscess under her suture line. The sutures were from her biopsy, and she is immune-compromised so not healing as well as normal.

Oh Geez.

The good news is that Zoey was home again within hours and feeling SO much better.

In the meantime, I have a demanding job. Enough said about that.

Tika (Sparkler) is in season and as per prior plans, Aysha and I met yesterday so Tika could stay here to avoid any potential Berner x Rat Terrier consequences. Yes, I trust Aysha! However, after spending considerable time with the Rat Terrier in June, I appreciate his ingenuity.

Aysha mentioned Tika had coughed once that morning. Dogs cough, no worries. Tika seemed just fine.

An hour or so after arriving back at the Camp Kaibab, Tika started coughing and gagging in earnest.

Tika refused dinner. Double Uh Oh.

Communicated with Marti about Kennel Cough precautions and etc.

Took her temp (Tika, not Marti) -- 102.6.

Double-xpenned Tika in living room to both isolate and observe.

Communicated with our wonderful vet tech liaison, Sheryl.

Within an hour we were on our way to the vet -- I just did not like Tika's breathing. By the time we got there her temp was at 105.3!

And so that is how/why Tika spent the night at the vet with pneumonia and poor Aysha had to be talked out of driving down from Canada in the middle of the night to be with her baby.

Tika was at a show last weekend -- likely she got a dog show respiratory bug. We caught it quickly and early, and the 5:30 a.m. report from the vet is that Tika is eating, feeling better, and her temp is down; I expect her to be released later today.

I might be glad this week is coming to a close.

This is Claire and Sparkle doing some Microwave training this morning...

Claire isn't the only Sparkler that is super-sized -- Tika is not as tall as Claire but weighs about the same: 83 pounds at the vet last night!

Yes, some weeks are like that in the dog world. If there is any justice, things should go extra swell next week. Maybe time for some lucky socks. Makes me thankful for my uneventful week of no coughing and appetite aplenty.

rat terrier ingenuity comment = LOL. (and, smart thinking!)

Por sick Tika = :-( Poor baby. I hope she is on the mend and it doesn't spread to the others.

I hope Zoey continues to be on the mend.

Well, that’s an amazing week. I hope this next week is so calm you will be crazy bored!!
