ZZeke Update & WOW

Barb sent some really nice photos for her update!! Here is her news about ZZeke...

"Zeke had a good week. He has fun playing with Zuko - my daughter's dog who is 18 months old.

And when Zuko isn't here he has fun with Aunty Zaida.  Zelda lets him sleep by her and grooms him but isn't much for playing.  We had more snow this week so he has been enjoying his walks in the snow.

He is such a smart boy. The only time he really is ever on a leash is in class - and he just happily walks along beside me.

He gives me such good attention. Seriously - he makes me look good.  Sure hope he continues to enjoy working for me so much. No corrections just click and treat or praise. He is sooo smart.  We finished puppy class today but will be continuing on with basic obedience.

Zeke weighed 36 pounds, Not fat though-can feel ribs easily.  His fur is just goofy-all curly and gray.  I can't begin to tell you how much I adore him or thank you enough for him.

Thank you, Barb, for those great pictures and an excellent report on ZZeke -- he looks great!!!!

Later....

Syd and I went on a walk, and picked up the mail on the way back. Once home I opened a box from Kathy and promptly burst into tears -- see for yourself:

That is a painting of Mrs. Maize that Kathy did for us -- and it captures Maize perfectly, as only someone who knew and loved her well -- as Kathy did -- could have done. What an incredible gift -- to use her talents as an artist to memorialize Maize -- well, there are not enough words to express how I feel and thank you seems woefully inadequate...

I would love to know more about Zuko... Is he/she a "special" Berner or something else? And the picture of Maize is of course, amazing! Younger, primer, but ever serious... A terrific gift.

Zuko is ??? a red Berner. Val claims he must have had a brown tri Aussie in the woodpile. I sent him to Bernergarde yesterday. His parents are both in there with DNA#s.. His mom is black-and dad red tri whatever he is. He had a brother in the same litter born 8-22-10 that was red and a sister that was black..
The parents were rebred last fall with a red? female, 2 red males and 2 black puppies. I understand that true red Berners are just red and white. I did hear that Entlebuchlers come in red. I know Swissies come in blue which is gray. Zuko is red like a red doberman is to a black doberman. He has 3 color markings and yellow-tan eyes. He is 75-80 pounds kind of tall and skinny-not much bone. But I have seen Berners built like that. Anyway he thinks he's a Berner.. He talks, leans, sloppy sits with the best of them. He has a sweet mellow temperment and is totally tolerant of Zeke. We will get him OFA'd when he's 2. His breeder doesn't do clearances. She evidently used to show her dogs but hasn't in a long time. My daughter always loved the red dogs and he has a great home with her-couldn't be more spoiled.. When she works he's with us. And today she is puppy nanny for Zeke so it has worked out well.
There are more pictures of him in my Facebook photos.

M-A, I realize this blog is about Kaibab dogs ;->, but thank you Barb for the info about Zuko. I met a red Swissy in Switzerland, and he also had the red tri markings w/different shades of red. He was of course a neutered pet, because red is not accepted in their breed standard either, but I think it may occur a little more often than with Berners. I think Copper, the only other red Berner I've seen in person was marked this way too, so I think that is how they normally are marked. Anyway, he's a lovely dog, and obviously has a great home, so lucky for him _and_ his mom (your daughter).

Zeke is just adorable!!! It is amazing how much he looks/acts like Lainey in body shape and attention... and Heidi is completely different - fluffy and cobby like a little bear and VERY busy:)

The beautiful painting of Maize - well there are just no words...!!!

What a wonderful tribute to your dig. I too am an artist and feel Ms. Maize was captured wonderfully.
