2017: Part 1

There are different ways of looking at the same picture, even in Life with Dogs.

In a way, 2017 was a tough year -- Sydney died. Zoey was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Harper B for Bad Luck was leveled with her second TPLO. Those are real things and I wish they hadn't happened, but I choose not to let them define 2017.

How blessed we were to have Sydney enjoy excellent quality of life for as long as she did after her diagnosis. Of course we wish none of that had happened -- but perfect health for Sydney was not one of the options, and so we made the best of the life that was Sydney's to live. And always, we remember her...

The human heart is made to hold great sorrows and great joys at the same time. In fact, I think they inform the other. The great sorrows make the great joys so much more precious because we know that joy won't last forever. And the great joys whisper of hope when we are in the Dark Place weeping our endless tears.

Perspective. That is what I consider one of the greatest gifts offered by Life with Dogs.

A year of ups and downs, tears and laughter. Sydney was an unforgettable spirit. We can all hope to be honored in loving lmemory after we are gone, and in that way, are just a tiny bit immortal. <3

I look into those same, sweet eyes every single day and I'm so grateful for what Syd (and you) have blessed me with. <3
