Checking Clearances

Breeders should be able to provide copies of all clearances, but verifying this information on-line is both important and easy. The following outlines how to locate information that can help you make informed decisions.

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals
1. Obtain the registered name and/or registration number for the dog you are checking
2. Go to
3. If you have the registration number, enter it in the box for a “Quick Search”
4. If you do not have the registration number or nothing came up with the registration number, click on “Advanced Search” located under the “Quick Search” box
5. Enter the name or part of the name in the box indicated. Be sure and click the button indicating whether this is the full name or part of the name
6. Select the breed
7. At the bottom of the page, click on “Begin-Search”
8. Practice with this dog: WP79093705
9. Look at the variety of information that is presented, including information about the dog, her parents, siblings, half-siblings and offspring.

Berner Garde Foundation
1. Go to
2. Click on the “Database” button
3. Click on “Click here to access database as a “Guest”
4. Click on “Dogs”
5. Search for the dog by name, part of a name, call name, or registration
6. To practice, enter the call name “Abra”
7. Note the various information that can be available on a dog, including titles, clearances, pedigree and photo

Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF)
1. Go to
2. Select whether you want to search by name, registration number or CERF number
3. Enter requested information – test with WP79093705
4. Notice “Examine Date” – CERF numbers are only good for one year
