Deadlines + Other Stuff + Mesa

Deadlines are so helpful! First, they remind us that all things come to end -- and all of us can do about anything for a short amount of time. Second, they help us prioritize what needs to be moved to the front burner, so to speak. And third, they are extremely motivating -- to me, at least.  I find it hard to get too serious about things with no deadline -- probably because all those things with deadlines get in the way.

At any rate -- deadlines are looming and thank goodness for that. The semester is ending -- and that means a flurry of getting ducks in a row, grading, finishing a manuscript, and so on. In six days I leave for Gettysburg -- and that means that I need to have two presentations prepared, not to mention the dog training stuff -- oh, and that whole packing thing. This should be an interesting six days -- but then it will be done, and that is the beauty of deadlines.

I wish I felt better prepared for all the events of the Specialty but the simple truth is that the Little Soldiers were occupied with Operation Grief and Operation Dog Training fell to the wayside, as would be expected. When one is grieving or otherwise engaged in a challenging Life Event, it is normal that there are not enough Little Soldiers to go around -- and like deadlines, you have to prioritize when you cannot do everything at once.

And something else -- you cannot feel badly about the reality of your limitations. Operation Guilt/Beat Myself Up is a useless mission that wastes Little Soldiers -- abort that mission immediately! We each only have the 100 Little Soldiers at our disposal and they cannot be in two places at once -- don't waste their energy on useless things.

So Zoey's obedience won't be as polished as I had hoped -- oh well. And Harper B is not free stacking as well as I had planned -- oh well. If the worst problem of my day is that my obedience dog sits crooked or my puppy's paw is in the wrong place -- well, that is an excellent day indeed.

A bad day is when you wake up with six dogs you love and go to bed with only five of them -- any other kind of day is a gift. I intend to remember this -- and invite you to reflect on that as well.

Birthday Boy Milo -- thank you, Sue, for sharing this picture of recently turned six years old, Milo (D Litter)...

Good thing you live in New Hampshire or Cousin Julie would be over to snatch him, I am sure :)

And here is the link to the efforts to create a legacy for Cadi's dad, Marshall -- it also includes his story and his photo:

And later -- Mesa and Alex! We expect a double dose since we missed our update last week!

A birthday girl! Gracie, Milo's littermate -- also six!

Thank you, Cindy - Gracie is lovely and looks so much like her mom, Mrs. Maize...

And now -- a Saturday Bonus! A very short video featuring Zoey, Harper, a new Pink Ball -- and a special guest!

More Later! MESA and Alex!

Jennifer writes, "Alex declared that he is all written out.  He was up late last night doing last minute studying for his all day Hunter's Safety test today...and up early to finish before he and Ralph drove to Baker for the test.  So here I am writing the update:)
Alex is focusing on teaching Mesa how to stand still.  Still is not an adjective we would normally use to describe Mesa, so it has been challenging, but like everything else, she is learning quickly.

It's fun to watch a puppy who never stops moving with a 12 year old who is still trying to figure out how to hold food in his hand while also trying to move said puppy with said hand.  So the pictures include some early results of the "stacking Mesa" process.

In the other pictures, note the beautiful gift from Barb; a lovely, yet masculine bling show lead perfect for a pretty girl and her boy:)

You might also note the face that Alex makes after he discovers that Mesa has located and consumed some poop."

I think all the faces are adorable!!!!! And that is a lovely puppy stacked quite nicely -- great job, Alex!!!!!

You have the most beautiful property- I am soooooo jealous of all that room to run your dogs so safely...wonderful video of Zoey too who is my kind of a gal- solid, bold, outgoing, and athletic- yes! now that squeeky ball would make me nuts after awhile- Can you tell I am not a fan of excess noise? No, did not raise kids... Grin, but love to see the two of them having such a great time racing around-wonderful...thanks for sending it!

Zoey has some fine moves there in that video! Not sure which would scout her first-NBA or NFL! And such happy tails! Alex, you and Mesa look wonderful! Holden, like Zeke, has some work to do. I think M-A, you are going to have your work cut out for you with Mr. Holden Squeaker!

Faith will only go about 4 steps to "chase" a ball. That was AWESOME. Harper B. is so cute.
