Cover Girl! Terri's G-Puppy! Zeke!

I have not received my Alpenhorn yet (it travels to Montana by Bison Express, I am thinking) but it must be out since Barb mentioned she got hers. Therefore, at long last I can share the cover with you all!

One pays to have a dog on the cover so keep that in mind, but you don't do it just because you love your dog -- you reserve covers for something extraordinary. Therefore, I had long ago decided that we would do a cover if we achieved my goal of having the first girl Versatility Dog Excellent -- we did and that would be our sweet, ball chasing Zoey.

I had also decided that I would make a point with picture selection -- even if only to myself -- and now to you as well :) Of course I am super proud of Zoey! Consider that in one weekend last August -- before her third birthday -- she earned her Grand Championship and her OA (that is a title and stands for Open Agility, BTW -- that means "by the way" FYI -- that means, oh never mind). And since she already had her DD, those two titles made her the breed's first female Versatility Dog Excellent and only the third one over all. (BTW, Cadi's father, Marshall, was the first Versatility Dog Excellent).

But there is more from that exceptional weekend last summer -- what we did not know at the time was that she earned that OA with three clean runs and times so fast that she is the Top Open Agility Dog of the Year for the BMDCA (Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America). She will receive that award -- and three others -- at the Specialty, and her awards include the "Gold Star", which means she also passed all health clearances suggested by the BMDCA through the CHIC program.

So yes -- since we bred this exceptional dog and I trained/handled her to every title -- I am very proud of her. But her achievements are not what make Zoey extraordinary. What I love about Zoey is who and what she is -- and nothing captures that essence better than watching her chase balls. It is when she is zooming after balls and playing with them like a cat that you get a sense of her fun, happy, willing, energetic nature -- and since she requires a ball thrower, it is also symbolic of our relationship.

Therefore, I selected a picture of Zoey taken by Ruth Nielsen last June as Zoey was chasing her ball. In the photo, Ruth captures what I love about Zoey and she kindly let me use the photo for the cover -- and it is perfect. This is the picture that is on the cover of the current edition of the Alpenhorn (along with Zoey's "real" name: GCH CH Kaibab'z Forever Bright TD OA NAJ DD)...

I love it -- and appreciate Ruth taking and sharing the picture through the Alpenhorn cover.

And speaking of Zoey -- this is not what you want to see when you are getting ready to take your Cover Girl to the Specialty:

Yes indeed -- Zoey and her hair are in separate places. I am thinking about wearing a shirt that says, "Bald is Beautiful" when I show her in the Versatility Showcase -- what do you think??

And just look at what Terri Z's grandpuppy, Harper B, did last night!!!!!

If it weren't for bad manners, my dogs would have no manners at all...

And now we get our Zeke Fix! Barb shares, "Can't believe we'll be on the way to Gburg in less than a week...

Zeke weighed 63# this week. He is doing great.

We went to class this morning and he learned a rally back-up in no time flat. He is really smart - you can see his mind working trying to figure out what I want.

He is learning Zaida's naughty habits as you can see by his picture on the picnic table.

To Zaida any table is a "table" and might get you treats.  She thinks the grooming table is hers and he doesn't belong on it.

I'm sending you a picture of Zeke digging in the last of the dirty snow he can find. We walk in the woods and the dogs all go for any leftover pile they can find to lie on and dig in."

Thank you, Barb! Wonderful pictures!!!! And Zeke looks GREAT!

I hope we all have a most excellent Sunday -- and that pictures of the west coast plumpie party make their way to the Blog later :)

Love to see those pups climbing on things and no I do not consider that bad manners AT ALL-grin...See I am not such a manners fanatic about everything-grin- just no pushy beggers or yappers please, otherwise please do climb, run, jump and pickup and carry everything- I love that explorer attitude in a puppy don't you? and Zoey is the perfect cover girl- beautiful and athletic and outgoing-ALL GOOD and I bet she climbed on things and carried things as a pup too! Bummer she is out of coat for the Specialty but she will have fun doing her thing anyway!

Gee I thought the Alpenhorn arrived by stagecoach/burro in Leadville. Sorry if I let the cat/Zoey out of the bag but that is my favorite cover ever!!!! She is everything good in a BMD-brains, beauty and working ability!!

I was having a particularly bad/sad day on Friday that was brightened considerably with the arrival of the Alpenhorn. I knew in an instant that it was Zoey - even before I saw her name. Gorgeous picture - gorgeous girl!

Alpenhorn delivery is slow in PA too! Maybe white tailed deer? groundhog? I haven't gotten mine yet either, but how fun will it be to get it this week, right before seeing Zoey get her awards at the banquet! Wish I knew how to whistle thru my fingers :). Holden is stopped short of getting up on tables, but he does go out of his way to jump on the pause table at agility practice! He loved it, especially if he can find a 24" one! Genetics, my oh my!

Zoey the Cover Girl! Super Awesome! and congratulations! Her cover shot looks terrific!

Zeke looks great and seems to be quite busy with excavations and table-hopping! And Zaida makes me smile with that huge grin of hers. What a happy girl!

Oh, Zoey is lovely!!! Faith is blowing her coat, too -- still.

That beautiful girl needs one! I have a ball chasing girl in my house too, and the joy of watching her run and play never gets old. :-) I may need to purchase that issue of the Alpenhorn. Zoey gets a gold star in my book, too. :-)
